Fleece Artist Nyoni

Orchid

More Nyoni has arrived, and in several new colorways, too.  Enjoy the new arrivals here.

Nyoni has become one of our most talked about yarns – we’ve heard from so many of you who love it for just about everything.  It is truly the sock yarn that has gone far beyond just socks.  As an example, Connie B., a Colorsong “regular” who has become passionate about Nyoni, sent this photo of her Nyoni rendition of Lily Chin’s Reversible Cable-Rib Shawl (link goes to pattern at Vogue Knitting store).  As you can see, Connie is right when she says Nyoni “was made for this pattern” – between the drape and the softly undulating color, it’s everything a happy knitter could want.  Her shawl, which is the full size of the pattern,  used 3.25 skeins of Nyoni.

Hand Maiden Camelspin

Bronze

Nine returning colorways are luxuriating in our yarn room, resting after their fortnight on the road from Nova Scotia.  And well they may rest, for once you cast on, they’ll be wonderfully busy becoming beautiful fabric that is soft and glowing with color.  Camelspin is one of the finest yarns ever spun – the combination of camel and silk creates a supremely elegant fingering weight yarn that is so alluring in it’s softness that it’s hard to set it down.  See it here.

These kits are lovely introductions to Camelspin ~

Rivulet Legwarmers

Rivulet Legwarmers - pattern free at www.twitchydesign.com

When Fleece Artist’s new Merino Angel arrived, we were a little concerned because it felt a bit unyielding in the skein.  Before announcing it, we wanted to be extra sure that this would be a soft, loveable yarn.  The most enthusiastic (and fastest!) knitter we know is Keri, so we gave her a skein of yarn and told her to go for it.  She not only swatched, she emerged a few days later with her Rivulet legwarmers and at the same time demonstrated that soft and loveable (and huggable and gorgeous) is Merino Angel’s middle name.

The Rivulet Legwarmers are a delight to wear and lovely to behold — not to mention that they are a great single-skein project and a highly practical addition to anyone’s wardrobe.  And, they are a great way to introduce you to Keri’s brand new blog, www.twitchydesign.com

In sports (Keri plays for our local roller derby team), coaches talk about two kinds of people: there are those with long muscles, good for distances but not for sprinting; then, there are those with “twitchy” muscles – excellent sprinters, but not great long distance runners.  Keri is of the “twitchy” type, and she feels that “Twitchy Design” is an excellent description her high-energy, exuberant approach to fiber and to life.  We love her spirit, her positivity, and most definitely her great taste in all things fiber.  We hope you have as much fun at www.twitchydesign.com as we do.

Hand Maiden Lace Silk

Beach House

Succulent.  This yarn just flows the dyes into itself unlike any other.  Every time we receive a shipment of Lace Silk, we find ourselves abandoning everything else in favor of gazing at the colors in their silken smoothness.  Treat yourself to a little gazing here.

Fleece Artist Merino Angel

Sangria

A while back, Fleece Artist produced a special kit for us. They stranded Merino 2/6 (their beloved sock yarn) with a special run of Angel Hair (Hand Maiden’s Kid Mohair) and created a sock pattern to match it. It was so popular, and knitters found so many other wonderful ways to use it that Kathryn commissioned a yarn to be spun that would eliminate the need to strand two yarns while having the same softness and strength. The result is Merino Angel and it is wonderful. The nylon makes it strong enough for cozy winter socks; the merino and kid combine into a soft cloud of warm embrace. It almost feels like angora, it is that luxuriously soft. We predict Merino Angel will become one of Fleece Artist’s staple yarns – something no one wants to be without.  Discover the new kid (and merino!) on the block, here.

Hand Maiden Sea Silk

Beach House

Doesn’t Beach House make you long for more?  We think it is one of Hand Maiden’s most stellar color achievements.  In addition, there are two other equally wonderful new colorways to gaze at: Nightshade and Nymph, plus new renditions of 7 old color friends.  See them all here.
