More Nyoni has arrived, and in several new colorways, too. Enjoy the new arrivals here.
Nyoni has become one of our most talked about yarns – we’ve heard from so many of you who love it for just about everything. It is truly the sock yarn that has gone far beyond just socks. As an example, Connie B., a Colorsong “regular” who has become passionate about Nyoni, sent this photo of her Nyoni rendition of Lily Chin’s Reversible Cable-Rib Shawl (link goes to pattern at Vogue Knitting store). As you can see, Connie is right when she says Nyoni “was made for this pattern” – between the drape and the softly undulating color, it’s everything a happy knitter could want. Her shawl, which is the full size of the pattern, used 3.25 skeins of Nyoni.

A while back, Fleece Artist produced a special kit for us. They stranded Merino 2/6 (their beloved sock yarn) with a special run of Angel Hair (Hand Maiden’s Kid Mohair) and created a sock pattern to match it. It was so popular, and knitters found so many other wonderful ways to use it that Kathryn commissioned a yarn to be spun that would eliminate the need to strand two yarns while having the same softness and strength. The result is Merino Angel and it is wonderful. The nylon makes it strong enough for cozy winter socks; the merino and kid combine into a soft cloud of warm embrace. It almost feels like angora, it is that luxuriously soft. We predict Merino Angel will become one of Fleece Artist’s staple yarns – something no one wants to be without. Discover the new kid (and merino!) on the block, here.
In addition to Red Fox, Moondust and Orchid have also appeared amidst our Blue Face Leicester 2/8 skeins. In case you missed the last 1000 times I’ve said this, BFL 2/8 is the worlds softest, strongest jumper-weight (aka, fingering weight) wool to ever grace a needle. Nourish your eyes and hands here.
These kits are perennial favorites as well as simply great ways to introduce yourself to the wonders of BFL 2/8 ~

Now that the 125g skeins of Big Blue are here, the 250g skeins are available at a luscious Clearance Price, here. Blankets and sweaters, anyone?
Another scrumptious Fleece Artist yarn is now available in the more practical and economical 125g skeins. This time it is Big Blue, the bulky weight Blue Face Leicester that is so soft you’ll want to curl up for a nap in it. Between the fiber and the spin of these beauties, your fingers will be treated to one of the most sensual and caressing wools ever. For winter hats and mittens, jackets and sweaters, and perhaps especially for cozy winter blankets, Big Blue is the yarn to choose, here.
And, if you’re thinking “sweater,” Perl Grey’s Jo Cowl Tunic is says “Big Blue” perfectly:
Keri had a birthday last week and by way of celebrating completed her very first large lace project, a beautiful rendition of MimKnits Adamas Shawl in Fleece Artist’s Limited Edition Saldanha. The pattern is a free download at what is a juicy and inspiring web site filled to the brim with beautiful lace designs, including the Adamas Shawl.

The Perfect Birthday? We all think so.
Let me tell you some of the wonderful things about this shawl. Of course, the best thing about it is that it is beautiful and that it is Keri’s first (stellar!) lace effort. But there’s more. Something you’ll all want to know is that this shawl measures 75″ across the top and 40″ at the center back, and it’s made using less than half of a single skein of Saldanha!!!
Then, there’s what happens to the colors when knit in the Adamas pattern:

It's like draping your shoulders in the night sky!
Although this photo doesn’t show everything we might all wish it did, you can glimpse the flashes of starry light dancing amidst the purples (the colorway is Twilight, by the way). This is just a hint of the magical changes that take place when you knit one of these colorways in this pattern. One of the things we can’t show in this medium is that some of the purples show up as plum notes on her shoulders, but as periwinkles agains her white dress. This makes for a color dance that is hard to tear yourself away from.
And, here’s some of the pattern detail ~ notice what a perfect job Keri did on this. Truly heirloom quality knitting. And she’s SO young!

Adamas pattern detail
Finally, I want to show you a trick Keri used when blocking her shawl. She had early on determined that her Adamas begged for what is known as a “severe blocking,” but went one step further to make absolutely shure that all the stitches opened evenly and that the shawl remained balanced:

Adamas being blocked
You see how beautifully equal each side of her Adamas is to the other? Here’s why:

The secrets of the center
She very cleverly ran blocking wire down the center of the shawl and secured it before even thinking about beginning the gentle stretching that her shawl required. It made all the difference and absolutely guaranteed that the beauty of the design simply sings.

Oregon Shawl Dreams
Needless to say, visions of future shawls are already on the horizon! You’re invited to send her an encouraging email at keri@bobnancyinc.com.
