We have been looking forward to this moment for some time – Bess is a beautiful, exciting new sports weight yarn that has just about everything. It is soft enough for a baby or your own sensitive skin; it takes color with a deep resonance that calls you back again and again for “just one more look”; and, it is an Earth-friendly machine washable yarn. With 12% Cashmere and 88% merino wool, Bess has been treated with the Bestwash process which eliminates the chlorine that is usually used to create superwashed yarns. The Bestwash process has an added advantage in that it keeps the natural fibers a bit more breathable, which means that anything you knit in Bess will be just that much more comfortable to wear. Altogether, Bess is one great yarn with infinite possibilities – see it here.
Bess also gave us the opportunity to bring back one of our (and your!) favorite designs from a few years back: Ilga Leja’s Brickwork Scarf. Originally, we created a kit in Cashlana, a cashmere/wool blend that everyone loved for it’s soft, drapey hand. Cashlana was eventually discontinued by the mill and the Brickwork Scarf became a fond memory. It was so much fun to discover that not only is the fiber content of Bess very similar (actually, a bit better – more cashmere) to Cashlana, but it is an identical weight and just perfect for more Brickwork scarves. And so, we welcome back an old friend – find your scarf to build on here.
